Journalism on the Internet

We do not agree about Internet being the new mass media, some simply consider it like a convergence space. But the position that maintains that we are contributor witnesses and of the birth and development of another means, surpassed and with own characteristics, every day has more followers. This new mass media use the textual, sonorous and visual language, and in addition it has virtues that surpass the limitations of traditional means: the immediacy, the interactivity, the personalización, the multimedia, but mainly, the possibility of the communication. Nevertheless, Internet also presents/displays limitations, few, but the sufficiently forceful thing like so that some they question to those who affirm that Internet will move to the newspaper, the radio and the television.

Contributions of Internet to the media

- It offers new sources of intelligence: Web sites, data bases, lists of interest, bulletins of the news, etc.

- It allows other channels for the communication with the sources of intelligence and the hearings, like the electronic mail, chat, etc.

- It allows to personalize the information, and its formats of presentation, for individuals and groups. Easily the graphical design and of the contents can be varied.

- It extends the hearings, more people can read a local newspaper, listen to one radio or see images of other parts of the world.

Limitations like means

- the professionals of mass media must become qualified to be able to use and to take advantage of Internet.

- the user must have minimum knowledge of computer science to accede to the information.

- Still the access to Internet is limited and expensive in the many parts of the world.

- To connect itself to Internet supposes, like minimum, several resources: a computer, software, telephone line and service of connection.

- the users are not customary to inquire by Internet.

- he does not allow to as easily share the contents as with the newspaper, for example, that can be detachhed, be transported and be distributed between several people.

- To accede to the information can take time, depending on technical questions.
